Contract Programming for RSTS/E
One of the first generally popular time-sharing systems was Digital Equipment Corporation's PDP-11, and one of its most popular operating systems was RSTS/E. First released in the 1970s, it retained strong market presence into the mid-1980s, at which time VAX/VMS and "upstart" personal computers overwhelmed its popularity. Yet in certain market segments, RSTS machines continue to run mission-critical business applications. Particularly with the approach of the year 2000, many of those systems and applications need review or updating; versions of RSTS before v10.1 are not year 2000 (Y2K) compliant, and many programs, having been written often a decade or more ago, have additional problems of their own.

At Financial Computer Systems, we continue to maintain in-house expertise in running RSTS systems and maintaining and developing software, primarily written in Basic-Plus-2 (BP2) and Basic-Plus. We can offer assistance to you at competitive rates, including consulting on moving to non-PDP-11 hardware environments while maintaining an unchanged software environment (i.e., PDP-11 emulators running RSTS on Intel or Intel-compatible PCs).

Legal stuff

Digital, RSTS/E, VAX/VMS, PDP-11, Basic-Plus and Basic-Plus-2 have been trademarks or registered trademarks of Digital Equipment Corporation, which is now a part of Hewlett-Packard. In the aftermath of the sale of the PDP-11 line of hardware and software to Mentec Corporation, it is unclear who holds the trademarks at this time, but all are used here for identification, without intent to infringe on the owner's rights. Intel is a registered trademark of Intel Corporation
